About the design:
“If you paid attention to Trump’s second inauguration, you probably saw him (or someone in his orbit) launch a cryptocurrency token called TrumpCoin ($TRUMP) just as he was being sworn in. The value of this bit of fake money immediately spiked to $56 billion as crypto speculators bought in to drive up the price, which then subsequently crashed through the floor as they all rushed to get out again before the value went to zero. Sleazy operators got out with a big payday (and got to launder some dirty money in the process) while a bunch of addled MAGA meemaws probably lost their shirts, and their children’s shirts as well.
Watching Trump’s shitcoin catch fire and make a bunch of disreputable assholes a lot of money reminded me of something I have been meaning to make an image about for a long time: the nature of capitalism as organized crime. It’s not just Trump and crypto- this entire economic system is a mob game, and we’re all paying protection money with our lives, our planet, our future. The people we have to pay are threatening us with physical violence and the destruction of our lives and livelihoods- and they’re all just as psychotic, desperate, pathetic and deluded as any mobster clan from any shitty movie.
It’s in their nature- and we have to find a way to destroy them.” – Roger Peet, the artist
