A graphic tale of dedication with a love interest set in the undercover world of the animal rights movement. Action, suspense and conflict are combined with exploration of contemporary issue. Kate Wilson is trying to rebuild her life after a broken relationship, when she attends an animal rights meeting one evening, encouraged by her friend, Steve. Here for the first time she meets and hears the dynamic activist, Mark Stanton, whose aim is to bring to an end all animal experimentation and suffering in the notorious company, Draco Life Sciences. Though sceptical and reluctant at first to be involved, Kate is impressed by Mark and persuaded by him eventually to go undercover to get vital information to achieve his objective. The Cause breaks new ground in exploring the issue of vivisection through fiction rather than documentary.

About the author:
Jane Mann has lived all her married life in The Chilterns near Marlow in Buckinghamshire. Previous to getting married she worked in Hong Kong as an English teacher, teaching mainly Chinese students. It was in Hong Kong that she first met her husband, Ray, and made many life long friends. So Hong Kong was a special place for her and features at the beginning of her novel, The Will.

Jane’s main interests are literature and the environment. She particularly loves poetry and has had three poetry books published, one specially for children called Give us a Chance, written with humour about creatures that we love to hate. Her other two poetry books, Shades of Seeing, and Sunlines and Shadow, cover the subjects of love and loss, childhood and age and the amazing wonders of the natural world and the skills of so many creatures within it. At the same time the poems subtly challenge what we are doing to the natural world.

Jane’s first novel, The Cause, took a fresh look at the animal rights movement. Her second novel, The Will, she very much enjoyed writing as she felt she could identify with the heroine, Hannah, in her search for the truth and justice and in trying to unravel the mysteries and carefully laid plot against her. Jane is now retired and has seven grandchildren. She plans to carry on with all her activities, especially writing.
